Know whether your dog's or cat's food is actually good, in seconds. Here's everything you can do.
Tap Scan and point at the barcode on the pack. If it isn’t in our database, we’ll ask you for a photo of the product (with its brand and name) and another of the ingredients; the AI only reads the label for you.
In a few seconds you’ll see a colour-coded score from 0 to 100, with what adds, what takes away and the ingredients to watch explained one by one.
If there’s something better, we give you healthier alternatives, with a plan to switch over 7 days without upsetting their stomach. And we work out their exact daily ration based on weight, age and breed.
The criteria and their weights are our own, drawing on methods from FEDIAF/AAFCO and on European legislation. No brand pays for the score: it’s worked out by an algorithm, not by money.
The score is the sum of six criteria, each with a cap of points out of 100:
We tell you whether that product is compatible (so it’s not cat food for your dog) and whether it’s a good choice for their specific profile.
Each analysis separates what’s good from what’s worth changing, and flags the ingredients to watch (cereals at the top, sugars, artificial preservatives…) in the Composition. Each criterion shows the points it adds and its maximum (for example 8/30); tap a row in «The good» to see why.
Below the score you’ll see the analysis on a dry matter basis, meaning without the water. A can is ~78 % water: its «8 % protein» is really 36 %, and next to the 28 % of a dry food it looked much worse. It’s the only way to compare them. When the label doesn’t declare the moisture, we tell you we’re estimating it.
In Pets, add your furry friend (species, weight, age, breed, neutered…). You can have several and pick your favourite.
With their profile we work out how many grams a day they need for the food analysed — not a generic recommendation. And how much each meal is, already split (3 for puppies and kittens, 2 for adults), so you don’t have to do the maths with the scoop in your hand.
On your pet's profile you can mark what they're allergic or intolerant to: chicken, cereals, dairy… You save it once and that's it.
Every time you scan, the ingredient list is cross-checked against their allergies and you get a warning if the product has any of them. No more reading the small print hunting for one word. It's a members feature.
In More you can make the text bigger across the whole app. Made for reading on your feet in the supermarket aisle, which is where it really gets used.
The whole app changes language from More, scores and alerts included.
You can turn on notifications to hear about what's new. They're off by default and you can drop them whenever you like.
If a product has the wrong brand, the ingredients wrong or a score that doesn't make sense to you, use the «Something wrong?» button on its page. We check it by hand.
You take two photos — the front and the ingredients — and in seconds you have the score. That page stays saved for everyone else.
Vaccines, worming and reminders for each pet, all in one place. We're finishing it off.
Tap “Save to the list for…” on any product (scans, alternatives, ranking) and they add up like a basket in More → The list for your pet, with its Amazon link. If you save something with a low score, we’ll let you know in case there are better options.
Upload a photo of them and their name, and they join the gallery everyone else sees. It goes through moderation first, so there are only pets in there. It's a members feature.
Anyone can «like» the pets they fall for, and you can like theirs. The newest arrivals show first, so everyone gets their moment at the top.
On the result, the share icon (top right of the card) or the «Share result» button create a vertical image with the score, ready for your stories, reels or WhatsApp. The heart is a «like»: mark the products you like (it isn't the shopping list). In Spain, share it with #RetoPetiqueta and go into the draw for years of membership (petiqueta.es/reto).
If you got to Petiqueta through a content creator, when you create your account tap «Did someone recommend it to you? Add their code» and type in the code they gave you. That way we know who to thank. It's optional and it changes nothing about your account.
Below each shop’s price you’ll see the €/kg. It’s the only number that really compares a 3 kg bag with a 12 kg one: the total price tells you nothing if the size is different. When we can’t be sure of the pack weight, we don’t show it — we’d rather leave the space blank than show a number that might be wrong.
And below that, the € per 1,000 kcal. The €/kg compares two bags of different sizes; this one compares two foods of different density, which is what really decides how long a bag lasts. Two foods at 10 €/kg, one with 350 kcal/100 g and the other with 420, cost 2.86 and 2.38 € per 1,000 kcal: a 20 % difference that the price per kilo doesn’t show. That’s why wet food comes out more expensive here — it’s the water.
In Scan, below the camera, type the name of the food and we’ll find it without a barcode. Handy when you’ve already thrown the pack away or you’re comparing before you buy.
As you type, brands also come up with how many foods we have from each one («Royal Canin · 2998»). Tap one to see only theirs. The number is real and errs on the low side, never the high side: it’s counted outside the app and the catalogue only grows.
You'll find all of this in the “More” tab (bottom right). As well as the ranking and the summary, that's where the shopping list, the language and the alerts are.

Tap the shield icon (top of Home) to ask about feeding, compare ingredients or understand a result. It’s an AI assistant, not a vet: it doesn’t diagnose or recommend treatments, and it isn’t what sets the score (the methodology’s algorithm does that). For any health problem, always your vet.
Petiqueta is in both official stores. Installing it from there gives you the native scanner, which is faster, and the alerts.
Rather not install anything? The website works just the same at petiqueta.es, scanner included.
For guidance only — it doesn't replace your vet's advice.
