Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This is a translation for convenience; the Spanish version prevails in case of discrepancy.
At Petiqueta we take your privacy seriously and collect only the minimum data needed for the app to work. This policy explains what data we process, for what purpose and what rights you have, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and Spanish law.
Data controller
The data controller is David López Antón (NIF 52129730T), Cerro de Valdecahonde 4, 1-A, 28023 Madrid, Spain, owner of Petiqueta. You can get in touch about any privacy matter at hola@petiqueta.es.
What data we process
- Account: your email address (and your password, which our authentication provider manages in encrypted form; we never see it).
- Your pet's data that you enter: species, breed, weight, age, sex and similar, to personalise the analysis and the portion.
- Your activity in the app: foods you scan (history), shopping lists and product photos you upload.
- Technical data: your IP address and basic browser data, used for security and to limit abuse of the service. From the IP we also infer the country (not the exact address), to show you shopping links for stores that ship to where you are.
- An anonymous identifier stored on your device: a random number, without your name or your email, that lets us know that the same visit scanned and then signed up. It doesn't identify anyone and is deleted when you clear your browser data.
What we use it for
- Providing the service: analysing foods, saving your pets and history, and calculating portions.
- Maintaining your account and your preferences.
- Security and abuse prevention.
- Improving the shared product catalogue with the photos you contribute (they contain no personal data).
- Hall of Fame: if you upload a photo of your pet to this gallery, it is published for other users together with the name you give it. It goes through moderation before it is shown, anyone can report it, and you can remove it whenever you want.
- Mobile notifications: only if you accept them, to tell you things like a price drop on a product you're watching. You can turn them off in your device or app settings.
- Price alerts: if you ask us to tell you about a price drop, we store the product and the reference price so we can compare it every day.
Commercial communications (newsletter)
Only if you tick the corresponding box when signing up will we use your email to send you nutrition tips and deals for your pet. It is optional and based on your consent: you can withdraw it whenever you want using the unsubscribe link in each email or by writing to us at hola@petiqueta.es. If you don't tick it, we will only write to you about what is essential to manage your account (for example, confirming your email or resetting your password).
Legal basis
We process your data in order to provide the service you request from us and, when you sign up or upload data, on the basis of your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account or writing to us.
Who processes data on our behalf
We rely on providers that act as data processors:
- Supabase — database, authentication and storage of your data and photos.
- Vercel — hosting of the website and the app.
- Email delivery provider — delivers your account emails (sign-up confirmation, password reset) and, if you accept it, the newsletter.
- AI providers (Anthropic, Groq and Cloudflare) — process, on a one-off basis, the images and text you send in order to read the food label, answer in the assistant or generate illustrations.
- Stripe — processes the payments you make on the website (card and the billing data needed to charge you).
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions when you buy from the Android or iOS app, coordinating the charge with Google Play or the App Store.
- Google ML Kit — reads the barcode on your own phone, inside the Android and iOS apps. The image never leaves the device; Google receives diagnostic and performance data (device and app information, errors) to keep the scanner working.
- Google Analytics — usage analytics for the website, in aggregate, to understand what works. Only on the website and only if you accept; it isn't used inside the iOS and Android apps.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram), only on the website and only if you accept — measures how many people arrive from our ads and what they do afterwards, so we don't spend the budget blindly. It isn't loaded until you give your consent, and it isn't used inside the iOS and Android apps.
- TikTok, only on the website and only if you accept — same as above, for our ads on TikTok. It isn't loaded without your permission either, nor used inside the mobile apps.
- Google and Apple, if you sign in with their buttons — when you use «Continue with Google» or «Sign in with Apple», the provider you choose confirms your identity and shares with us your email address and, if you have them in that account, your name and profile photo. This means that provider knows you use Petiqueta. You can avoid this by signing up with your email and a password; and with Apple you can also hide your real email by using its private address option.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (for example, in the United States). In that case, the processing is covered by the appropriate safeguards provided for in the GDPR, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Product photos
The packaging and ingredient photos you upload are added to a shared public catalogue to improve the database. Don't upload photos that contain personal information.
Retention
We keep your data for as long as you have an active account. If you ask us to delete it, we erase it unless we are required by law to keep something.
How to delete your Petiqueta account
You can delete your account yourself, instantly, from inside the app: go to More → Your account → Delete account. You can also ask us by email at hola@petiqueta.es from your account's email address, and we will do it within a maximum of 30 days.
What we delete: your email and login account, your pets' profiles, your scan history and shopping lists, and your preferences.
What we keep: the packaging/ingredient photos you had already uploaded to the shared public catalogue (they contain no personal data and don't identify who uploaded them, which is why they aren't deleted with the account) and any record the law requires us to keep (for example, for fraud prevention).
Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability by writing to us at hola@petiqueta.es. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD, the Spanish Data Protection Agency) (aepd.es).
Minors
Petiqueta is not aimed at children under 14. If you are under that age, you need permission from your parents or guardians to use the app.
Changes
We may update this policy to reflect improvements or legal changes. We will always publish the current version on this page.
